TARGET MARKETING
- Most direct mail advertisers mistakenly believe the larger the circulation, the better their results will be. Here is why that assumption is wrong:
- Sending out ten thousand mailers once will not reap high returns. It’s actually a waste of money.
- Frequency and repetition gets results. Advertisers get substantially better results when mailing to a small number of residents more often, rather than a large number less often.
- It’s been proven that good direct mail results begins after the recipient has received 5 to 11 mailers delivered every ten days.
- For example, you receive substantially more sales when you send 1,000 mailers to the same 1,000 addresses five times, and subsequently fewer sales when you send out 5,000 mailers only once.
- Once you start receiving results, you are better able to reinvest profits in more advertising.
- If you have a huge advertising budget, you may be able to send out 10,000 mailers at a time. However, the problem is being able to consistently send 10,000 mailers to the same address every ten days.
- With bulk mail you can send a mailer for .18 cents per address, plus printing costs. When you advertise in the shoppers News & Views your cost drops to only .02 cents per address. This means you can easily afford the repetition needed to gain maximum results.
